Notre Dame Fest or NDFEST is probably the most hyped yearly event in Notre Dame University. It is a break to the stress brought by studies and the perfect time to showcase and hone talents at sports, socio-cultural and academic events or even just playing childhood games.
A clash of the different colleges that comprises the university; CBA Tigers, CED Eagles, CAS Wizards, CHS Angels, CEN Phoenix and CCS Dragons. It is usually a week wide event and during this period of hiatus from classes, each one of the students will have to find a way to survive and not be eaten by boredom. Different people, different likings. Here are the types of students you’ll encounter in the school grounds during NDFest.
The Maestro
Maestro’s are special kind of students. They can easily be distinguished because either they are on the run or they are in the field with long sleeve on and an umbrella monitoring every event. They act goody two shoes since it is their job for, they are a part of the student organization that brought you or arranged the events that you are now enjoying. They do not get to try the events, but it is their ultimate sacrifice and is rewarded by student appreciation.
Spearheads
Spearheads are like Maestros, they handle great responsibility but instead of the events, they handle their college. Utilizing every student’s initiative and potential, they are the ones who organizes their own college-mates and fetch players and manages the players and guide them to the where’s, what’s and when’s of the event. They are the student council of the colleges. Unlike Maestro who appear neutral to the whole event, Spearheads have teams to cheer on and support. They are also easy to spot on because you will see that they do not join any games or events and sometimes wear a different type of college shirt.
The Warriors
The warriors are the college’s pride and joy, the chosen ones; the few selected students who get to represent their own college to different sports and events. They are prime among the other students. The ones who excel at different skill areas. Some of them are popular especially the varsity players. They can easily be spotted since they are out there on the field breaking a leg to bring their college the bacon.
The 6th Man
They are the students who are part of the games but did not have the chance to play at all because they are just there to fill the slots so that the team are eligible to participate in the said game. Some of them are forced to join because of lack of players and ends up disappointing themselves and the college but they still want to be of use. It is sad but still, they are in times enthusiastic as ever and will always be there to be a back up player and patiently waits for their turn that seem to never come.
Tambayers Club
The Tambayers Club are those students who didn’t join any event or already done with their own events. That is why the only thing they do for the moment is to “tambay” or idle. They are students who are on a brink of being swallowed by boredom, if only their close friends are done with their events then these people are ready to go home.
The Loyal Fan Club
The Loyal Fan Club are those students who greatly support their own college, even though they haven’t been able to join any event because the slot is already taken or they just have insecurities about their own capabilities so they dedicate their time to support the college and go all out especially in cheers and battle trances. They are the fuel to the burning hearts of the warriors.
The Love Birds
What’s the greatest thing about the hiatus from class? It is the fact that you can show off your significant other to the school without being called out as PDA. These pairs are like tambayers but unlike them who have separate ways, Love Birds are inseparable. This pair-up works so well because the one or the other is a warrior or a player and the other one is just a supporter, anyways. The list wouldn’t be completed without this power duo in the fields, right?
Dagger Out!
Lastly on the list are the Dagger Out! The name is a DotA phrase which means to escape quickly. They are the students who only go to school to avail the team shirt, the free foods and the attendance. They don’t really want to be in the school and will spend most of the time to just play mobile games under the trees, on the gym or anywhere that is comfortable. If they have the chance, they’ll go out to internet shops to play. Their presence is rarely felt during these times of productivity and you’ll hear one of them say “Tara, dagger out!”
There you go, the different types of students you will probably encounter in the upcoming NDFest. Which of these types are you? Whatever you want to do, just remember to have fun and contribute to your home college even just by being there to shout names and cheer.
